Recently Orlaith was invited to speak to a wonderful group of young women taking part in the Momentum Leadership in Action Programme.
The concept behind the programme is ‘Every person has what it takes to become something great’ and involves Transition Year and 5th Year students taking part in training sessions with guest speakers, receiving mentoring and helping out in their local community. It is hoped that by the end of the programme each student will have found the tools to become her personal best and ultimately unlock her full potential.
In her presentation to the group Orlaith gave advice on public speaking – something that a lot of students seemed to struggle with. Orlaith shared some tips on how to combat the nerves and explained how to get key messages across even if you’re put on the spot!
Orlaith also held a discussion with the group where she asked how comfortable they were about voicing their opinions in public. One of the most interesting facts to emerge from the discussion was the fact that the students didn’t realise the impact they may have when voicing their opinions on social media.
